Fortunately he did take me to a hostel in the red light district, but later I thought, "Do you wanna get killed, because this is how you get killed, dumbass." Best time of my life. Like the bewildered and naive American I was, I did. He says he knows a hostel and tells me to follow him.
The idea of a hostel that caters for rich people to torture and kill unsuspecting tourists is disturbing enough, but when you consider the fact that there are underground groups of fucked up people out there, this movie becomes scarily real. The film was written by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford and directed by Watts. CLOWN stars Peter Stormare, Laura Allen, Andy Powers and Elizabeth Whitmere. You may also know me from THE GREEN INFERNO, HOSTEL and CABIN FEVER. When I got off the train at Amstel Station some random guy (who reminds me of the weirdo in the movie) comes up to me and asks if I have a place to stay, to which I reply no. Say what you want about the film, but the concept of Hostel is downright terrifying. I Am Eli Roth producer of the upcoming film CLOWN and I'm excited for you to join my Reddit AMA to discuss my new film. Also, the scenes of Amsterdam brought back many (fuzzy) memories :) Part of what stuck with me about the movie is that I always stayed in hostels, and except for the kidnapping and killing, the movie had the experience spot on. I never felt unsafe in Europe (in fact felt much safer stumbling through city streets at night) and would love to return and explore the the Czech Republic. It was a dream of mine to make it to Prague but wasn't able to make it work. Unfortunately I had limited time and funds and wasn't able to make it to the Czech Republic. I'd think most people would dismiss it as a scam and the site would go bankrupt within a month.
Even if some website had insane funding, streamed outside of the US, and could somehow work on servers that couldn't be detected by the authorities, you'd still have to somehow get people to know about the website and be rich enough to pay to see it.
It was all 100% consensual porn, but they still had enough authority to take down the website and their facilities. After 9/11, the FBI was cracking the whip and they raided this website and destroyed their whole business. There were enough pervs to make this website a ton of money and keep coming back. Horror classics like Psycho and The Exorcist deliver high-octane nightmare fuel scares thanks in part to their fictional stories being tethered to very real, and very frightening, events. There's a documentary called Graphic Sexual Horror that's about this extreme bondage website that went as far as it could possibly go, and their porn people would get paid more for doing the craziest scenes, and live streams. The only thing scarier than the horror movies that Hollywood puts on the big screen are the real-life horrors that inspired them.
